Most visitors spend 2 to 3 days exploring Huangshan Mountain.

A day trip allows for a quick glimpse of the highlights, while 2 days offer a more leisurely experience and try some hiking through the West Sea Valley Grand Canyon or Front Huangshan Mountain (Jade Screen Scenic Area).

For a comprehensive exploration and immersion in the mountain's beauty, consider staying 3 days or more. If your time is enough it is recommended to extend your tour to the surrounding villages like Hongcun.

Huangshan Mountain is actually a year-round destination. There is different scenery at different times, and it is all beautiful.

However, the most recommended time to visit Huangshan Mountain is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is generally mild, and the mountain is adorned with vibrant colors, making for breathtaking scenery. Additionally, the chance of encountering clear skies and a mesmerizing sea of clouds is higher, enhancing the overall experience.

The Quartz-sandstone Pillars Point to the Sky

More accurately, Zhangjiajie is not a mountain, but a scenic area that belongs to mountainous topography and consists of plenty of hills or quartz-sandstone pillars. When you look up from the bottom, you will find that the quartz-sandstone pillars look like hundreds of swords thrust into the sky. According to statistics, there are more than 3000 quartz-sandstone pillars in the Zhangjiajie National Park, 1000 of which are over 200 meters.

The best times to visit Zhangjiajie are spring (March to June) and autumn (September to October), offering cool weather ideal for hiking with stunning views.

July and August boast clear skies, perfect for mountain vistas, but crowds peak due to summer vacations. November to February see fewer visitors, offering chances to see snowy vistas and lower costs, though temperatures are chilly.

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) is a highlight if you take a trip to Yunnan, China. It offers stunning views of snow-capped peaks, lush forests and crystal-clear lakes.

Elevation: 5,596 meters (18,360 ft)

• Glacier Park: Visitors can take an exciting cable car ride up to see the stunning glaciers. At over 4,500 meters high, you can walk on the glacier and enjoy amazing views of the snow-covered peaks.

The most common option is to spend 1 day exploring the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. With a day tour, you can see the main sights, including the Glacier Park and Blue Moon Valley.

The best time to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is from late spring to early autumn, specifically between April and October. During these months, the weather is generally mild and clear, making it ideal for hiking and sightseeing.

The winter falls in November and lasts to March. While it is less popular due to colder temperatures and potential snow, it provides a unique and quieter experience with less cost. Besides, some areas may be less accessible due to snow during this period.

Mount Everest

The Tibetan side of Everest will show you the north face of the world's highest peak, which is awe-inspiring. By visiting this mountain, you may feel how tiny human beings are in this world.

Location: Border Btween Nepal and Tibet, China

Elevation: 8,849 metres (29,032 ft)

• Everest Base Camp: At the camp, you'll have incredible views of Everest's north face and see where trekkers start their climb. Even the way you drive there is amazing, with views of glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and the vast Tibetan Plateau.

Generally, you need to add 2 days to your Tibet tour if you want to visit the North Base Camp to see Mount Everest up close. However, if you want to challenge yourself by hiking to higher camps, such as the Advanced Base Camp located at 6,400 meters (21,000 ft), you may need about 1 week or more.

The best time to visit the Tibetan side of Mount Everest is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to early November). During these periods, the weather is relatively stable, and the temperatures are moderate. The skies are usually clear, offering stunning views of Everest and other peaks. It is also a popular time among climbers attempting to summit Everest.

Emei Mountain

The best time to visit Emei Mountain is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures.

Spring offers blooming flowers and lush greenery, while the colorful autumn foliage adds to the mountain's beauty. Both are ideal times for hiking and enjoying the natural beauty.

The Track to the Top of Mount Tai

Mount Tai is revered as the chief of the Five Great Mountains in China. It is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and has a rich cultural heritage, integrating history and nature.

Throughout history, Mount Tai has been a sacred pilgrimage site for emperors, with 13 making the arduous journey to its summit and 24 sending officials to offer sacrifices. Hikers and history buffs? 3+ days unlock every trail, temple, and cultural gem Huashan Mountain has to offer.

For Mount Huashan, the best time to visit is during the spring and autumn months, specifically from April to June and September to November. These seasons offer comfortable temperatures and clearer skies, providing ideal conditions for exploring Mount Hua's rugged terrain and breathtaking vistas.

The Zhurong Temple on the Top of Mount Heng

With 72 peaks sprawling over a vast area, Mount Hengshan offers a scenic escape with opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature. As a renowned Buddhist and Taoist holy site for centuries, you can also get a unique cultural and spiritual experience.

Location: Hengyang City, Hunan Province

Elevation: 1300.2 meters (4266ft.)

• Grand South Heaven Temple (Nanyue Miao): This sprawling temple complex, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907), features stunning architecture with nine courtyards and a towering 22-meter-high main hall.
• Zhurong Peak: As the highest summit of Hengshan Mountain, Zhurong Peak offers unparalleled vistas. Given Hengshan Mountain's subtropical monsoon climate, the best time to visit spans the spring and autumn months, where temperatures hover around a comfortable 16°C (60.8°F) on average. Spring and autumn offer ideal conditions for outdoor pursuits, while summer can be humid with occasional showers, and winter brings dry weather with light snowfall at higher altitudes.

For those who relish lush greenery, visiting during the rainy season, from May to August, is recommended. However, be prepared for potential downpours during this period.

Hanging Temple Hung on the Cliff

Nestled near Datong City in Shanxi Province, Hengshan Mountain, also known as the North Hengshan to distinguish it from its southern counterpart, offers another kind of experience. Whether you're a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or a spiritual seeker, Hengshan has something for everyone.

Location: Datong City, Shanxi Province (About 290km from Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province)

Elevation: 2016.1 meters (6617 ft.)

• Hanging Monastery: This unique Buddhist temple complex clings precariously to a cliffside, seemingly defying gravity. Built over 1,500 years ago, the intricate architecture integrates elements of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. It is a true marvel of engineering and a must-see for any visitor to Hengshan Mountain.
• Golden Dragon Gorge: Hengshan's dramatic landscape is dotted with fascinating geological wonders. The Golden Dragon Gorge, a narrow chasm with steep cliffs, was once a crucial defensive point. Explore hidden caves, natural arches, and rock formations that add to the mountain's mystique.

Generally, 1-2 days is enough to explore the main attractions of this mountain, including the Hanging Temple and the Golden Dragon Gorge. But if you're interested in learning more about its history and culture, you can stay a few more days.

Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for exploring North Hengshan, with mild days and a clear sky ideal for exploring the mountain's beauty.

However, if you're prepared for colder temperatures and potentially limited accessibility, winter can provide a quieter experience amidst the mountain's serene beauty.

The Gate of Shaolin Monastery

Nicknamed the "Central Mountain" for its location among China's Five Great Mountains, Mount Song is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization. Emperors sought blessings here, while poets and scholars were inspired by its grandeur.

Rich in history and culture, Mount Song offers a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance. If you are a fan of Kongfu, Mount Song is a must-visit destination in China.

Location: Zhengzhou City, Henan Province

Elevation: 1512 meters (4961 ft.)

• Shaolin Temple: For over 1500 years, Shaolin Temple has been the center of Chinese Kung Fu, and witnessing a live Kung Fu performance is an unforgettable experience.
• Taishi Peak: The highest peak of the Songshan Mountain range, Taishi Mountain offers challenging hikes with breathtaking scenery.
• Songyang Academy: As one of the four most prestigious Confucian academies in China, it's an ideal place to learn Chinese culture.

You can take a half or a full day to explore Songshan Mountain. And it is highly recommended to combine it with other attractions around Zhengzhou, such as Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang Museum, etc.

Songshan is suitable for visiting all year round. If you prefer cooler weather, the spring and autumn seasons will be better choices. If you're aiming for the Shaolin Temple International Martial Arts Festival, you should visit there in late September or early October (the date can vary by year).
