If you see one attraction, make it the giant pandas. You can get up close and personal with the over 200 giant pandas that live at Chengdu Panda Base and even meet celebrity pandas, including Hua Hua and Qi Yi! Villas 1 and 2 are the best viewing spots, where you'll spot these majestic creatures playing and snacking on bamboo. Every habitat is designed to reflect these pandas' wild home and has enough space for them to move around and enjoy themselves. Chengdu Panda Base is not a zoo; it's a research center with the animals' well-being top of mind, so you can rest assured that these animals are incredibly well-cared for and content.

Baby pandas at the nurseryBaby pandas at the nursery

There are three nurseries at Chengdu Panda Base: Moonlight Nursery, Sun Giant Panda Nursery, and Star Nursery. Star Nursery is the best for seeing precious baby pandas, as it's a newer facility and offers a better viewing experience than the other two. Baby pandas are generally born between July and September. For conservation purposes, the Chengdu Panda Base doesn't show newborn baby pandas, but you can see pandas that are 3-4 months old and have just learned to crawl. You can also take pictures of the cubs, but remember to turn off your flash while doing so.

Heading towards Red Panda Activity AreaHeading towards Red Panda Activity Area

Red pandas are the charming and cute brownish-red residents of the Chengdu Panda Base, and you should certainly make time to visit them at the Red Panda Outdoor Activity Area and the Red Panda Nursery. Plus, the Red Panda Nursery is often less crowded than the giant panda areas, so you'll have more baby panda time to yourself. You'll also spot black swans and peacocks at the panda base.

The Giant Panda Museum is a family-friendly stop that combines entertainment and education and is excellent for kids. It features giant panda fossils, habitat recreations, and interactive exhibits focusing on conservation and the evolution of these gentle giants. Visitors can also learn how to help endangered animals like giant pandas.

The Bamboo TowerThe Bamboo Tower

Panda Tower, also known as Bamboo Tower, is an excellent way to get a bird's-eye view of the park. While the Chengdu Panda Base has plans to put in a sightseeing elevator, there's not one yet, and you'll have to climb plenty of stairs to get to the top. The tower is free for visitors, but you do need to book a ticket online in advance, and it is open between 9 am and 5 pm every day except Tuesday. The tower also closes in bad weather, so keep an eye on the skies before you visit.

When touring the Chengdu Panda Base, you have two recommended options. We're also happy to adjust and customize these routes to fit your preferences and walking ability.

  • Enter and exit from the South Gate
  • Best for first-time visitors
  • Covers adult and sub-adult pandas, the Red Panda Nursery, and Moonlight Nursery
  • Enter at the West Gate; exit at the South Gate
  • A more immersive experience than the classic route
  • Start at West Gate, then visit Star Nursery, Bamboo Tower, No. 1 Giant Panda Villa, and Red Panda Nursery, then exit through the South Gate

The Chengdu Panda Base is quite large, and so the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus is an excellent idea. The bus ticket is not included in your general admission. You can purchase it for 30 CNY ($4.15), and it departs from the South and West Gates. Depending on where you depart from, your tour will encompass sights like the Sun Giant Panda Nursery House, Panda Tower, and Giant Panda Villa. We can help you determine which route is right for you.

If you're looking for a more immersive experience that gives you an insider peek into giant panda care, the Panda Loving Care Volunteer Program is an excellent choice. While you won't be able to participate as a volunteer at Chengdu Panda Base, there are several locations right around Chengdu where you can really get to know these magnificent creatures. Three panda bases, Duijiangyan Panda Park, Bifengxia Panda Reserve, and Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve, all offer this program. We can help arrange this experience and put together a hassle-free, memorable trip with a private guide and car for your convenience.

Second Honeymoon My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary by spending a few weeks touring around Asia. We loved how Odynovo worked with us to craft a tour of what we wanted to see and how we wanted to see it. This was our first time traveling with a private tour guide, and it was truly amazing. they took care of all transportation, tickets, and everywhere we went we had someone who not only spoke our language, but was also very well-versed in the places we were visiting. We saw Beijing and then took a bullet train to Xi'an. In both cities we had tour guides who had done this "a thousand times," and as a result knew all the tricks on where to take the best pictures, what lines to stand in, where to eat, and what not to waste your time seeing. At one point our guide pulled out ponchos from her backpack when it started to rain, while another helped us haggle for a good price on a new suitcase. We were surprised by how much we loved China, and it is safe to say that is because of the quality of service we got from Odynovo. Oh, and the hotels were great, too! In our first hotel my wife fell in love with her breakfast soup that she had to have every morning, while in Xi'an we were right around the corner from the Muslim Night Market and were able to get to it in less than 5 minutes of walking. We are already looking to see what tours we will be doing next through Odynovo, as the service was amazing, the quality was remarkable, and the cost was very worth it for what we received.

Fabulous! We had a fabulous experience with our guide and Odynovo walking the Great Wall of China, and all other sites in Beijing. We loved our Peking duck dinner. It was fabulous. Thank you, Sammie/Jing for a great experience.

Beijing Beauty It started off with a friendly face at the airport, with Roy, our tour guide. The week has been such a pleasure and a treat. From adventures to The Great Wall, Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City, to local markets, delicious Beijing food and roof top tea houses.Roy and our driver, Mr. Zhou, were prompt in picking us up and driving us around safely. The knowledge and fact about history and Beijing that Roy knows and explains is amazing and the fact he could answer my weird and inquisitive history questionsnwoth ease was a treat. He made it so easy to enjoy ourselves and absorb all that was around us, he even takes great photos too! 😊Polite, kind and thoughtful and ever patient in letting us take our time with things that interested us.I would highly recommend this tour and Roy again and again.

Amazing travel experience My name is Zarah M. Babangida a Nigerian and i visited Beijing with my colleagues from the office. During our 5 day stay in Beijing, Ms. Eva Ma, was our Tour guide and from the minute we came through the Arrival Gate of the Airport, we were embraced by her alluring smile and warm welcome. She remained consistent with her warmth, a kind and intelligent professional who exuded unique passion not just for her job as a tour guide but, even more so as a proud Chinese woman. Her outstanding insight and knowledge of the sweet Chinese history and heritage left us in awe. I couldn't be more proud and thankful that she was assigned to our group and she made our stay exciting, fun-filled effortless and knowledge packed. I absolutely commend her dedication to work which she depicted throughout our stay. I recommend her to every visiting tourist because to know Eva, is to love her. If it were up to me, i will increase her bonuses or upgrade her salary as i am sure most tourists would want or revisit for her sake first and then perhaps other reasons.Thank you Eva and keep the passion up🙌.
