The Gate of Fanjingshan MountainThe Gate of Fanjingshan Mountain

If you love nature and adventure, Fanjingshan is a must-visit. Often referred to as ''Heavenly City in the Sky,'' it's one of China's five sacred Buddhist mountains and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

When you reach the summit, you'll feel an overwhelming sense of achievement, and the views are breathtaking. At the top, there are two ancient temples, Shakyamuni Hall and Maitreya Hall, sitting on twin peaks connected by a narrow sky bridge.

Travel Tips:

  • The best time to visit is from March to May (Spring) and September to November (Fall). The views are stunning, and there are fewer crowds compared to the summer season. Plan at least 5 hours for your visit.
  • The highest point of Fanjingshan reaches 2,474 meters. Climbing to the iconic Red Cloud Golden Summit involves some steep sections where you'll need both hands and feet, so be prepared for a challenge.
  • The weather at the summit can change quickly. Bring a raincoat or umbrella, and wear a light jacket, as it can be chilly at the top.

Our travel expert in Langde Miao villageOur travel expert visiting Langde Miao village

Guizhou is home to a diverse range of ethnic cultures and is inhabited by 40 ethnic minority groups. Miao and Dong are the most well-known ethnic groups in Guizhou. In southeastern Guizhou (Qiandongnan), villages like Langde Miao Village, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, and Basha Miao Village offer immersive experiences of Miao customs and traditions.

In Zhaoxing Dong Village, you will discover how local people live in the village, appreciate the traditional wooden architecture, such as the iconic Drum Towers and Wind-and-Rain Bridges, and enjoy peaceful countryside life.

Our travel experts have also explored lesser-known heritage villages, including ancient cave paper-making in Shiqiao, traditional batik in Gejia Matang village, and centuries-old silversmithing villages. These villages are free to visit and offer authentic ethnic culture experiences beyond the typical tourist attractions.

Travel Tips:

  • Most ethnic minority villages are located in the mountains and are not easily accessible by public transportation. A private car is usually required for transfers.
  • Some intangible cultural heritage experiences, such as traditional cave paper-making or Miao-style batik, require booking. We can help arrange these authentic cultural experiences for you.

Huangguoshu Waterfall in GuizhouHuangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou

Huangguoshu waterfall is located in Anshun, a city just a 30-minute high-speed train ride from Guiyang. It is another UNESCO-listed site and one of the largest waterfall clusters in Asia. The scenic area features 18 waterfalls of various shapes and sizes. The Grand Waterfall Area is the most iconic waterfall. You can also walk close behind the Grand waterfall in the Water Curtain Cave, a special and exhilarating experience.

  • May to October is the best time to visit. Summer (June to August) is the rainy season when the waterfall is at its most spectacular, but sometimes the heavy rains may also cause flooding, which may make the water appear muddy and less scenic.
  • The scenic area is large, so plan to spend around 5-6 hours exploring. Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing quite a bit of walking.
  • Bring a raincoat or waterproof jacket if you want to get close to the waterfall without getting soaked.

Night view of Zhenyuan Ancient TownNight view of Zhenyuan Ancient Town

If you're looking to soak in the charm of a traditional old Chinese town, Zhenyuan Ancient Town is an ideal destination. With over 2,200 years of history, the town retains its original stone-paved streets, lending it an authentic and nostalgic charm.

Zhenyuan truly comes alive at night. One of the highlights is taking a leisurely boat ride along the Wuyang River. You will see the lanterns and historic architecture create a stunning riverside scene.

If you're staying in a riverside hotel, relaxing on your balcony and enjoying the night view will make your stay even more memorable.

Travel Tips:

  • Zhenyuan doesn't have a high-speed rail station; only regular trains stop here. It takes about 4 hours by train from Guiyang. For a quicker trip, you can depart from Kaili instead; the journey is around 1.5 hours.
  • Zhenyuan Ancient Town is just a 2-hour drive from Fanjingshan, making it a perfect stopover after visiting the Miao villages in Kaili.

Second Honeymoon My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary by spending a few weeks touring around Asia. We loved how Odynovo worked with us to craft a tour of what we wanted to see and how we wanted to see it. This was our first time traveling with a private tour guide, and it was truly amazing. they took care of all transportation, tickets, and everywhere we went we had someone who not only spoke our language, but was also very well-versed in the places we were visiting. We saw Beijing and then took a bullet train to Xi'an. In both cities we had tour guides who had done this "a thousand times," and as a result knew all the tricks on where to take the best pictures, what lines to stand in, where to eat, and what not to waste your time seeing. At one point our guide pulled out ponchos from her backpack when it started to rain, while another helped us haggle for a good price on a new suitcase. We were surprised by how much we loved China, and it is safe to say that is because of the quality of service we got from Odynovo. Oh, and the hotels were great, too! In our first hotel my wife fell in love with her breakfast soup that she had to have every morning, while in Xi'an we were right around the corner from the Muslim Night Market and were able to get to it in less than 5 minutes of walking. We are already looking to see what tours we will be doing next through Odynovo, as the service was amazing, the quality was remarkable, and the cost was very worth it for what we received.

Fabulous! We had a fabulous experience with our guide and Odynovo walking the Great Wall of China, and all other sites in Beijing. We loved our Peking duck dinner. It was fabulous. Thank you, Sammie/Jing for a great experience.

From adventures to The Great Wall, Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City, to local markets, delicious Beijing food and roof top tea houses.Roy and our driver, Mr. Zhou, were prompt in picking us up and driving us around safely. The knowledge and fact about history and Beijing that Roy knows and explains is amazing and the fact he could answer my weird and inquisitive history questionsnwoth ease was a treat. He made it so easy to enjoy ourselves and absorb all that was around us, he even takes great photos too! 😊Polite, kind and thoughtful and ever patient in letting us take our time with things that interested us.I would highly recommend this tour and Roy again and again.

Amazing travel experience My name is Zarah M. Babangida a Nigerian and i visited Beijing with my colleagues from the office. During our 5 day stay in Beijing, Ms. Eva Ma, was our Tour guide and from the minute we came through the Arrival Gate of the Airport, we were embraced by her alluring smile and warm welcome. She remained consistent with her warmth, a kind and intelligent professional who exuded unique passion not just for her job as a tour guide but, even more so as a proud Chinese woman. Her outstanding insight and knowledge of the sweet Chinese history and heritage left us in awe. I couldn't be more proud and thankful that she was assigned to our group and she made our stay exciting, fun-filled effortless and knowledge packed. I absolutely commend her dedication to work which she depicted throughout our stay. I recommend her to every visiting tourist because to know Eva, is to love her. If it were up to me, i will increase her bonuses or upgrade her salary as i am sure most tourists would want or revisit for her sake first and then perhaps other reasons.Thank you Eva and keep the passion up🙌.
